Un-Assuming

We can't build a new world on the beliefs that made the old one.

Dialogueas experiment

Can the ancient Socratic method solve our modern problems? Help us create a better world? Let's find out.

As AI increasingly replicates human thought and behavior, understanding ourselves becomes more urgent than ever — especially the troubling question of why we so often choose paths that lead to suffering.

Using the ancient philosophical method of dialogue, Karen leads conversations that examine human nature, the systems we create, and the beliefs that shape our society. We don't claim to have the answers. Through open dialogue, insight, and inquiry, we invite listeners to see the world in a new way, hold dialogues of their own, and — ultimately — find their role in creating a better world.

"An unexamined life is not worth living."

— Socrates

Is Lying Part of Human Nature?

Do People Need to Work?

For many, work provides purpose and identity. Yet jobs and even professions are disappearing with automation and AI. Some governments are experimenting with UBI to compensate. But is work solely about earnings — or do people need it to live happy, productive lives? And does the type of work matter?

Why Un-Assuming?

What we hope
to accomplish

01

Conduct dialogues that cultivate personal growth

Imagine sitting around the Thanksgiving table, and, instead of arguing politics, you talk about what it means to be ethical. We need these conversations, now more than ever, as dialogue has become debate and the quest for understanding replaced with the need for winning.

02

Challenge assumptions and illuminate unexamined beliefs

We filter our perceptions through our beliefs and many of our beliefs are so ingrained, we can't see them. Unless we identify these and challenge them, we will never know what's possible. And we'll never understand those who hold completely different beliefs.

03

Dissect humanity's best and worst impulses so we can replicate our best

We barely understand ourselves and yet we are in the process of replicating ourselves. How do we nip bad behaviors, like greed, domination, and violence, in the bud? How can we activate our better selves and bring out the best in others?

04

Reimagine the paradigms that shape our society

Once we understand what's holding us back, we can imagine a world unrestricted by our current paradigms of capitalism, consumption, and countries. Don't you want to create peace and prosperity for all?
